Recently I’ve been struggling with Angelica and her new food preferences. The days of purees are surely becoming the past, anything that looks too creamy is instantly pushed away. Purees were great, my Mom would load them with nutritious stuff, I wouldn’t have to worry about her not getting everything she needed. But now, I find myself struggling to come up with meals that are not too mushy, yet are easy to chew and swallow. I’ve cooked all sorts of things, from meatballs to filet mignon… in my desperation, any descent suggestion for a meal has been tried. Fortunately, I found I few winners that have gotten a big yay from my piccolina. So before I turn this post into a book, here’s a list of the links to the miracle recipes:
- Dad’s Meatloaf with Tomato Relish
- The Classic Cuban Picadillo
- Slow Cooker Pot Roast (I do season it a bit more than the recipe calls for)
- Chicken and Vegetables with Herbs
- Chicken Stroganoff
I will keep adding more recipes as I keep experimenting with different dishes. Hopefully my bossy toddler has more yays than nays for me!

Hi Lydiam! I really appreciate your post and links to the recipes that have proven to be winners in Angie’s taste-bud book. I would often take pride in the fact that Thalia was a great eater. My mom, too, would make her soups and meals that would leave her nutritiously satisfied and would leave me mommy satisfied. However, like Angie, soups and purees are a thing of the past—-and guess who is sad about it?! ME!! She shakes her head quite determinedly at what used to be her favorites: bananas, her Beechnut oatmeal, and her once adored corn caserole! Anyhow, I will try making the recipes you have tried. My only worry is that she is now spitting out her meats. No idea why. Anyhow, I’m hoping this is just a “food phase” and that her love for food in general will ignite once again. Thanks again for your post.

Cathy, so sorry you are going through the same thing as me… it’s sooooo frustrating! Angelica will spit out some meat too, but it’s usually when it’s not soft enough for her to chew it up quickly, she has no patience. Now I stick to a lot of slow cooked recipes, the slow cooker is my new best friend! lol I do hope it’s a phase too, luckily she tries everything I put in front of her, she just doesn’t eat enough of it. I usually complete her meals with yogurt (which she loves) or a bottle of formula, that gives me a piece of mind.
